Biographical Information

I was born in Army Camp Shelby (Mississippi) in 1945.

My family moved here from Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee in 1950 – my Dad (Cleburne H. Bean) was a teacher there but moved to Peoria to work at Cat.  He passed away in 1971, still working at the “Met Lab” in East Peoria.   He was active in the Masonic fraternity his entire adult life, and was a member of the Valley of Peoria from 1958 until his death, and performed Blue Lodge Ritual work in lodges all over central Illinois.  Both he and my Mother were both very active in the Eastern Star; my Mother (Nerva Lou Bean) is still a Grand Lecturer and was Grand Sentinel in 1987.

I went to school in Peoria at Franklin and Tyng Grade Schools and Peoria High, graduating in 1963.  I attended Iowa State University for a while after high school and began a career at Caterpillar Inc. in 1964 as a “mail boy”.  I finally graduated from Illinois Central College with an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1976.  At Cat, I worked my way through various Accounting and Information Services jobs, including a three year stint in Dealer Channel Systems, traveling to Cat Dealers assisting them financial systems.  I ended my career as a Senior Accountant in Global Purchasing,  retiring in December 2002, with two weeks short of 38 years of service.  I returned as a part time employee in Global Purchasing in January of 2003 and continue in that role.

My wife Wanda and I were married in July, 2001.  We are both ‘empty nesters’ – our children are all grown and gone.  My adopted son Kevin, lives in Missouri and he and his wife Heather ave three children; my other son, Daniel, lives in Pennsylvania.  Wanda has three children: April (a music teacher) is in Palatine, Illinois with her husband David,  Shawn works at Cat and lives in Metamora, and Tracey ( a clinical psychologist) is located in Springfield.

I began my next career as the Executive Secretary at the Valley of Peoria on March 1, 2004.
